The joy of setting a goal for yourself is that you have something to work towards, and thereby making your days (if not weeks) go by more meaningfully.
Inspired by a good friend, I decided to adapt this self-improvement concept but tweaked it according to my own circumstances.
For those interested, the idea and his own list is found here: https://malciggrpg.wordpress.com/2026/04/12/12-things-12-times-in-12-weeks-from-the-12th-april/
My version is listing down 12 things to do that would bring me joy (while also challenging myself) in the next 12 weeks. The goal is to accomplish at least one unique activity each week.
For accountability, I’ve set a few ‘ground rules’ so I don’t short-circuit myself out of this fun endeavor. 🤭
Rule 1: It is fine to repeat any of the activities, so long as a new one from the list is accomplished in that same week.
Rule 2: It is fine that the activities get accomplished in no particular order, so long as each activity listed is done at least once throughout the 12-week period.
Rule 3: These activities are listed in a manner that is ‘reasonably’ doable as of this writing. Swapping is fine only if it is an activity that is closely similar or just as ‘meaningful’.
Adding more activities is encouraged, provided the initial 12 listed have been accomplished.
The 12 things are:
- Finish reading a book AND write a review about it.
- Read outdoors at least once e.g. park, beach
- Chat/catch up with a friend in-person over coffee/meal/shared activity.
- Find a positively-themed aka ‘feel-good’ movie/film to watch AND write a review about it.
- Go for an official/timed 5k run locally.
- Connect with a friend haven’t seen or spoken to in years, either virtually or by phone call.
- Attend a local event e.g., a concert, exhibits
- Find an ‘interesting’ TV show to watch AND write a review about it.
- Make a new friend outside of regular circle
- Bake something good!
- Book a ‘self-care’ treat e.g. spa or therapeutic massages!
- Go on a leisurely weekend trip.
For the activities I have explicitly noted that I’ll write about, it’ll be posted here.
The rest? We’ll see… if my keyboarding skills would be up to the challenge of pinning down those wayward thoughts as they come. 😉
Regardless, here’s to a great start of what I hope will be an interesting 12 weeks (roughly, 3 months!) of re-establishing connections, appreciating new things and shared experiences. Feel free to follow along!
