A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.
Irish Proverb
As a working adult and a single parent, I often wish there were more hours in a day to achieve all that is on my to-do list.
Since that isn’t possible, I sacrifice sleep at times. I compensate with caffeine and sugar. Eventually, I’m running on fumes. I hold up just enough for when the weekend comes.
What’s more, because I’m stressed over stuff at work and other things, my insomnia keeps me up most nights. It robs me even more of the precious sleep that I need.
Neglecting our body by not getting enough sleep is counterintuitive. We are depriving ourselves of the very ingredient that makes us succeed.
Sleep is the essential tool that guides us to the best decisions. It benefits us when we are at our peak mentally and physically.
Protecting our sleep gives us a clearer head to find solutions to our problems the next day. That’s why you hear people say “sleep on it” when you’re wrestling with difficult situations.
We are more patient and kind to the people around us when we’re well-rested. Our brain can create space to foster creativity towards our endeavors.
I find that when I have adequate sleep, I connect with people more positively. My natural predisposition to socializing and having lighthearted conversations is a trademark of my most productive days at work.
