Day 191 Y25 Thought of the Day_Self-Compassion

Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.

Brené Brown

It’s easy for us to be kind and compassionate towards others. But, we don’t show the same kindness when it comes to ourselves.

We are our own worst critics. When we fail, we often berate ourselves. This happens when a decision leads to unexpected outcomes and a pang of regret. We think we should have known better.

Not that it ever helps us get better when we treat ourselves harshly whenever we falter. It only leaves us even more discouraged and feeling empty.

I’m guilty of doing this. Well-meaning friends often remind me that I shouldn’t be too hard on myself.

Self-compassion is acknowledging that we are doing the best we can with what we have at the moment. It’s accepting that we are flawed as human beings. It’s giving ourselves the same grace and understanding as we would a cherished friend.

It reminds us that though we are not perfect, we are worthy of love and kindness. Especially when we are hurting, weary, and feel like we’ve let ourselves down.
