Day 190 Y25 Thought of the Day_Simple Pleasures

The best things in life are free.
The second best are very expensive.

Coco Chanel

It refers to the things we take for granted. We are so used to them that we don’t give them much thought.

It is the simplest of things, like being alive. Waking up for another day. The very air we breathe. The basic functions of a healthy body. The full meals we partake in each day. The peace of mind in having a safe home. The unconditional love of a child or a parent. The quiet support of friends, whether they are near or far.

We assume those things are a given. As a result, our attention focuses on what is problematic, what we are lacking, and what we want more of. We worry about what was and forget to appreciate what is. I know this too well, being the chronic worrier that I am.

Recognizing the quiet goodness existing in our lives is akin to taking a full, deep breath. We can do it at any moment. When we do, it gives us that profound peace, strength, and resilience to face life’s ups and downs.

It turns the mundane into something phenomenal. It is us reminding ourselves we are fortunate and supported in more ways than we realize.

Today, I am grateful for the simple pleasure that comes with the warmth and aroma of my morning coffee. I took my time and savored each sip. I looked out the window and let my mind wander for a while.

As the caffeine kicked in, it invigorated me and gave me the mental boost that I needed. That invincible feeling that I can take on the world, even just for today.
