You’ll always remember your first. For me, it’s experiencing the first snow as it came down in North Bay today.

My handy weather app forecasted it a couple of days ago. The official weather report for Northeastern Ontario also indicated that snow will come early pre-winter season. But it still feels different when you experience it first-hand.

I feel like a child again. Likely because it is a faraway ‘dream’ that’s finally fulfilled.

Influence from Hallmark movies made its way through my fantasies of being in a country that snows in certain parts of the year, and now I’m living in one.

I dream of cozy days snuggled in a blanket, with a mug of hot chocolate in hand or curled up with a book and looking out the window as the first snow gradually falls.

In reality, I experienced it as I got off from my part time job an hour or so past midnight.

What originally looked like steady rain blown by the wind was fine, powdery snow that hits your face ever so gently, yet numbs you in a few minutes. It was an exhilarating feeling.

For someone like me who has only lived in a tropical place all my life that’s mostly sunny and dry, this is a novelty.

I know the feeling of wonder will wear off eventually, yet I wanted to remember what it’s like for the first time.

I can’t make snow angels just yet since it isn’t thick enough to build up on the ground and likely will be gone in the morning, but eventually I will.

I have yet to experience what the harsh, cold Winter would truly be like in the North. I may regret wishing for snow by then. But for now, I look forward to it.
